Frieze Seoul, Kiaf Seoul announce programs, participating galleries for 2024

Two of Korea’s largest art fairs, Frieze Seoul and Kiaf Seoul, announced their programs and participating galleries on Tuesday.

Two of Korea’s largest art fairs, Frieze Seoul and Kiaf Seoul, announced their programs and participating galleries on Tuesday.

Both fairs are slated to kick off on Sept. 4, with Frieze running until Sept. 7 and Kiaf running until Sept. 8 at Coex in Gangnam District, southern Seoul.

The third edition of Frieze Seoul will feature over 110 art galleries from 30 countries, including Arario Gallery, Gallery Baton, Gladstone Gallery, Johyun Gallery, Tina Kim Gallery, Kukje Gallery, Lehmann Maupin, Lisson Gallery, Pace Gallery, PKM Gallery and White Cube.

This year introduces Frieze Live, a new program that introduces curatorial performance-based artworks. The Frieze Seoul Artist Award is back for the second time to shed light on promising artists.

Kiaf Seoul, hosted and organized by the Galleries Association of Korea, is in its 23rd edition and will see 207 participating galleries from 21 nations. Over a third of the galleries are from abroad, and 36 galleries are taking part for the first time.

The event will expand its lounge space and update the floor plan to “elevate the quality of the fair overall,” said Hwang Dal-seung, president of the Galleries Associaion of Korea in a press release.

A special exhibition, titled “Kiaf onSITE,” highlights the media art, installations, performances and even virtual reality works of artists like Yang Min-ha, Choi Won-jung, Jin & Park, Kat Austen, Winslow Porter, Marlene Bart and Kim Bo-sul.
