The majority Democratic Party (DP) on Monday submitted a motion to appoint a special prosecutor to reinvestigate the remittance of $8 million to North Korea by SBW Group’s former Chairman Kim Sung-tae in 2018 at the request of Lee Hwa-young, former vice governor of Gyeonggi, in return for business favors and then-Gov. Lee Jae-myung’s possible visit to Pyongyang. The DP has been attacking the prosecution for its “politically motivated investigation” of the case. The bench will deliver its first ruling on the vice governor on Friday. [PARK YONG-SEOK]
