Hyundai Green Food Co., a subsidiary of Hyundai Department Store Group, is set to open the first South Korean outlet of the American handcrafted burger brand Jaggers as early as July.

With Jaggers joining the ranks of popular premium burger chains like Five Guys and Shake Shack, the competition in the high-end burger market in Korea is expected to intensify.

According to industry sources on Sunday, Hyundai Green Food began hiring full-time employees for customer service and menu preparation positions at the Jaggers location on Camp Humphreys, a U.S. military base in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province, on May 22.

The store is slated to open by the end of July.

Jaggers, a handcrafted burger brand operated by Texas Roadhouse since 2014, is known for its popularity in the U.S., particularly for its plant-based patties. It currently runs 11 outlets in the U.S., and the upcoming Korean location will be its first international store.

In the U.S., Jaggers burgers are priced between $6 and $8, making them relatively affordable compared to other premium burgers. The brand is distinguished by its commitment to freshly preparing all menu items upon order.

Five Guys has seen significant success in Korea despite its high price point of over 10,000 won ($7.2) per burger, with customers queuing up even before stores open.

Since launching its first store in Gangnam, southern Seoul, in June 2023, Five Guys has expanded to multiple locations, including Yeouido’s The Hyundai Seoul, Seoul Express Bus Terminal, and Seoul Station.
