HD KSOE unveils new ammonia scrubber technology

HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE) introduced its new technology aimed at eliminating the toxic gas emissions from ammonia, a next-generation eco-friendly ship fuel. The Korean shipbuilder introduced the “Integrated Ammonia Scrubber” at its international tech forum held in Athens, Greece last Friday.

The Integrated ammonia scrubber is designed to absorb and neutralize ammonia emissions from ammonia-fueled ships, effectively reducing emissions to zero. This device performs a two-step absorption process to achieve this reduction, ensuring that almost no toxic ammonia gas is released into the atmosphere. The exhaust outlets are strategically positioned far from crew living quarters, significantly enhancing safety.

Ammonia is considered a zero-carbon fuel as it does not produce carbon emissions when burned. However, its classification as a toxic gas continues to raise safety concerns.
