Hanwha Solutions Corp.’s Hanwha Q CELLS announced on Thursday that it completed a large-scale solar power complex in San Diego County, California that will supply renewable energy to Meta Platforms Inc., Facebook’s parent company.

The solar complex, which is the largest in the county, consists of 50 MW (megawatts) of solar modules and a 200 MWh (megawatt-hour) energy storage system (ESS). Hanwha Q CELLS provided the essential solar modules and other key equipment for the complex and was responsible for the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) of the project.

The solar energy generated at this site will be supplied to Meta, supporting the tech giant’s commitment to renewable energy. Meta achieved 100 percent renewable energy usage for its operations in 2020 and has set a goal to achieve carbon neutrality across its supply chain by 2030.

Leveraging the growing demand for renewable energy, Hanwha Q CELLS has been expanding its partnerships with global corporations. The South Korean company signed a contract with Microsoft Corp. in January 2024 to supply 12 GW of solar modules and EPC services over eight years.

Hanwha Q CELLS said it continues to strengthen its capabilities in project development, EPC, and power supply around North America’s largest solar manufacturing base.
