A solo exhibition by Hong Seong-Joon, renowned for his Layer series where the canvas looks like a thin curtain, is being held at Seojung Art galleries in Seoul and Busan until June 28th, 2024.

The exhibitions, themed “Where did it come from,” are divided into Parts 1 and 2, highlighting the artist‘s recent focus on hyper-realistic visual illusions.

The Study Layers series presents an intriguing illusion of thin vinyl that seemingly adheres to the canvas, but the canvas holds a hidden surprise. The textured surface, resembling bumps, was deliberately crafted by meticulously applying white acrylic paint to the outer edges, requiring 1,000-plus sessions of sandpapering to achieve the desired effect.
