Solivis began construction of a large-scale production facility to mass produce solid electrolytes using only Korean technology, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.

The company, which specializes in sulfide-based solid electrolytes, said on Monday that it held a groundbreaking ceremony for its first factory dedicated to mass-producing key materials for solid-state batteries. The ceremony took place on May 24th, 2024, in Hoengseong-gun, Gangwon Province, with over 100 government officials and industry stakeholders in attendance.

Solivis plans to invest a total of 15.2 billion won ($11.2 million) for the first phase of the construction, which encompasses three buildings within the complex, by the end of 2024. The facility will have an annual production capacity of 40 tons once this phase is completed.

The 7,400-square0-meter factory will manufacture solid electrolytes, and Solivis will implement its innovative solid electrolyte production process, the ‘third-generation wet-synthesis mass production platform,’ which was developed with an investment of 2 billion won in research and development.

The company’s solid electrolytes boast the highest level of ionic conductivity to date, which was achieved thanks to the proprietary wet-synthesis process. Its ability to swiftly adapt to customer requests regarding particle size and distribution is also a significant advantage.

“The Hoengseong factory will lay the foundation for Solivis to leap forward and become the undisputed global leader in the solid electrolytes field. We will accelerate our preparations to mass produce solid-state batteries for our customers once the factory is constructed by the end of 2024, and thus contribute to developing the solid-state battery market even further,” Solivis CEO Shin Dong-wook said.
