Doosan Enerbility Co., a heavy industrial company headquartered in South Korea, said in a statement on Tuesday that it is the successful bidder who will supply the equipment to a private power generator for a Chilean power plant’s fuel conversion project.

The project involves converting the fuel used for the 375-megawatt (MW) Infraestructura Energética Mejillones (IEM) power plant in Chile from coal to natural gas. Doosan Enerbility will supply and install its self-developed burners and auxiliary systems at the plant to turn it into a natural gas facility. In compliance with Chile‘s environmental regulations, the plant will continue to operate as a conventional power plant until 2025.

The Korean supplier said that after a short construction period of around six months, the plant’s carbon dioxide emissions will be reduced by approximately 40 percent and nitrogen oxide emissions by about 70 percent compared to current levels.
