Lee Kang-in scored the final goal of Paris Saint-Germain’s 2023-24 Ligue 1 season as the league champions beat Metz 2-0 at the Stade Saint-Symphorien in Metz, France on Sunday, notching one last win before the French Cup final.
The 23-year-old midfielder was involved in both goals on Sunday, also picking up an assist.
PSG started off strong. Carlos Soler opened the scoring in the seventh minute, receiving a clean pass from Lee on the left and curling the ball into the net’s top right corner. Five minutes later, Lee reacted to a cross into the middle from Marco Asensio and knocked the ball into the net from the edge of the goal box.
PSG paused their celebration as Lee was flagged for being offside, but a VAR review confirmed the goal for the visitors, who held onto their early lead for the rest of the match over Metz, who now face relegation playoffs.
Sunday’s victory made Les Parisiens the first club in Ligue 1 history to have gone unbeaten in every away game of the season.
And it also brought Lee to three goals and four assists over 24 appearances in the Ligue 1, playing as a regular pick in Luis Enrique’s squad.
Lee joined PSG last August from Spanish side Mallorca. He has been praised for his versatility on the pitch and his ability to score and make assists.
He got his first Ligue 1 goal in a 3-0 win over Montpellier in November after recording his first assist the previous game, a 3-2 win over Stade Brestois.
Lee has managed marks in nearly all of PSG’s competitions, including scoring a goal in the club’s 2-0 win over Toulouse for the Trophee des Champions in January before leaving to rejoin the Korean national team in Qatar for the AFC Asian Cup.
He also scored one goal and recorded an assist in PSG’s Champions League run before their semifinal exit to Borussia Dortmund.
The only competition in which Lee has yet to notch a goal or assist this season is the French Cup, also known as the Coupe de France, where PSG face Lyon in the final on Saturday local time.
Lee is also the first Korean player to have won the French league title. PSG sealed the deal in April after runners-up AS Monaco fell out of the title race.
