SK Chairman Chey Tae-won's second daughter, Chey Min-jeong, is getting married to a Chinese American entrepreneur in a ceremony in October, a departure from fellow scions who typically tie the knot with members of families that own large business groups.
The SK heiress will marry a Chinese American businessman at the Grand Walkerhill Seoul hotel in October, according to insiders in the finance industry. Her fiance is reportedly a graduate of Harvard University and has a master's in public policy from Stanford University. He is known to be currently managing a software startup that he founded and to have served in the U.S. forces in Korea for a year.
Chey cofounded the AI health care startup Integral Health with a Yale M.D. psychiatrist after leaving SK hynix in 2022. Integral Health provides a behavioral health management service developed in partnership with U.S. health care organizations and insurance companies.
Chey studied business management at Beijing University. She garnered public attention after entering the Officer Candidate School, a training academy for the Korean Navy, in 2014. After leaving the military, she worked in global M&A at Hony Capital, a Chinese private equity firm. She joined SK hynix in a senior associate-level role in 2019 and took a leave of absence in early 2022.
She then took an unpaid advisory role at Dawn, a San Francisco-based health care technology startup, and volunteered at Smart, a nongovernmental and nonprofit organization that promotes education equity.
SK Chairman Chey announced in October last year that he was "preparing succession" for the company's future management in an interview with Bloomberg. In a 2021 BBC interview, he said all professional executives, including his children, had the opportunity to take over management. The businessman, the largest shareholder of SK Holdings, owns a 17.5 percent stake as of August 2023.
