Protest against state privatization plans to fulfill IMF goals in Colombo

epa11342215 Supporters of Sri Lanka's Marxist People's Liberation Front (JVP) hold placards in the Sinhala language reading 'Stop the sale of national resources' and 'Get rid of the government that sells people's property' as they shout slogans during an anti-government protest, in Colombo, Sri Lanka, 15 May 2024. The protesters are claiming that government is attempting to privatize prominent state-owned entities, such as electricity, telecommunications, railways, postal services, insurance, and banks, to meet IMF loan conditions. The IMF had granted a total of SDR 762 million (about 1 billion dollars) in a four-year extended fund facility (EFE) arrangement for economic reforms in Sri Lanka. The EPA/CHAMILA KARUNARATHNE
