Renault Korea Inc., a South Korean car manufacturer headquartered in Busan, announced a significant business partnership with the Korea LPG Association to jointly develop eco-friendly liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) vehicles on Friday.

The agreement will see the duo jointly focus on advancing technologies for the country‘s first passenger vehicles equipped with the most advanced LPG direct injection (LPDi) engines.

As part of the partnership, Renault Korea and the Korea LPG Association will build a prototype test vehicle by the end of 2024 and then undergo thorough verification processes to assess emissions levels, fuel efficiency, and engine durability. Based on the results, the two companies will decide whether to begin mass production.

The collaborative effort aims to elevate the eco-friendliness of LPG vehicles, which are already well known for their advantages in reducing particulate matter and greenhouse gas emissions, even further and increase the demand for eco-friendly passenger cars.
