Korea Western Power Co. has won a deal to supply electricity produced at Al Ajban Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Park in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Korea Western Power announced on Sunday that it signed a power sales contract with UAE’s Emirates Water and Electricity Co. in Abu Dhabi on April 18.

The Al Ajban Solar PV Park is a large-scale renewable energy power plant construction project that involves investing approximately 1.3 trillion won to build a solar power plant with a capacity of 1,500 megawatts (MW) on a site about 70 kilometers east of Abu Dhabi.

Construction is scheduled to begin in the second half of this year, for completion in 2026.

This is the largest single solar power project awarded to a Korean company in terms of both capacity and project cost.

The area of the power plant spanning 20 million square meters is equivalent to 2,850 soccer fields, or the size of a small city. The estimated annual average power generation is 4,500 gigawatt-hours (GWh).

The electricity produced over the next 30 years will all be purchased by Emirates Water and Electricity, with the Abu Dhabi government guaranteeing the contract. The expected revenue from the sales is valued at more than 3 trillion won ($2.18 billion).

Korea Western Power plans to supply some of the equipment for the solar power plant construction project with Korean-made products.

The company advocated for using more than $30 million worth of Korean equipment during negotiations with engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) companies in the project bidding process.
