Samsung Electronics Co.‘s Galaxy Watch is expected to feature blood sugar monitoring function as early as the second half of 2024.

According to a post on Samsung Newsroom on Thursday, Hon Pak, vice president and head of digital healthcare at Samsung Electronics, recently met with advisory board members of the Samsung Health app at Samsung Medical Center in Seoul to discuss the future of the digital health industry and the role of wearables.

They reportedly focused on AI technology to be applied to Samsung Health, with topics such as diabetes and blood glucose monitoring being key subjects of discussion, along with arrhythmia and hypertension.

The industry expects that blood glucose monitoring will be added as a new feature in the upcoming Galaxy Watch7. The latest smart watch is likely to be classified as an electronic device rather than a medical device.

The major health management features in the Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy Watch series include heart health monitoring, menstrual cycle prediction, and comprehensive sleep analysis.
