epa11299871 Ghent students take part in an exercise in voting for the first time during the 'Great Debate' of 'Ghent European Youth Capital 2024', in Ghent, Belgium, 25 April 2024. Over the past six months, 750 Ghent students have been preparing for a debate with policymakers. Experts have been helping them develop their critical thinking skills and become confident in expressing their views. The debate starts with students tackling six real-world issues they care about: climate change, well-being, designing the future city, finances, a strong democracy, and fostering a sense of community. The day culminates in a grand debate where student representatives face off against political leaders.
