울버햄튼 원더러스 미드필더 황희찬이 울브스 ‘원 팩 주간’을 맞아 구단 측과 한 인터뷰에서 프리미어리그에서 한국을 대표하는 것의 의미와 다양한 국적을 보유한 선수들이 모여있는 팀이 어떻게 함께 잘 어울리는지에 대해 이야기했다.

“There are things that make us different, but there are also things that make us very similar, such as everyone in the team like joking with each other,” Hwang said in English in comments published on the Wolves website. “We always try to make each other laugh and enjoy each other’s company.”

울버햄튼 홈페이지에 공개된 게시물에서 황희찬은 영어로 “물론 서로 다른 점들도 있지만, 서로 아주 비슷한 점들도 있다”며 “가령 모두가 서로 놀리는 것을 좋아한다”고 말했다. 이어 “우리는 늘 서로 웃게 하려고 하고 함께 어울리는 것을 즐긴다”고 했다.

Hwang joined Wolves 2021 on loan and then signed with the club permanently in 2022. He started the current season in great form, quickly becoming the club’s top scorer before being sidelined by injury since early this year. He returned as a substitute last week and is expected to take a growing role again over the last few weeks of the season.

황희찬은 2021년 울버햄튼으로 임대 이적한 뒤 2022년엔 완전 이적 계약을 맺었다. 그는 좋은 모습을 보이며 이번 시즌을 시작했고 빠르게 팀 내 최다 득점자가 됐지만 올해 초 부상을 입어 출전하지 않고 있다. 그는 지난주 (4월 둘째 주) 교체 선수로 그라운드에 복귀했고 올 시즌 마지막 몇 주간은 팀에서 보다 많은 역할을 할 것으로 보인다.

“For me, it’s very meaningful,” Hwang said. “If I see Korean fans in Wolverhampton it makes me really proud and it’s an honor. I want to keep doing well for them and for our local fans.”

The Wolves One Pack week is intended to shine a light on the diversity at the club. Hwang was interviewed alongside 18 other people of various gender, race, religion.

During the interview, Hwang was also asked what makes him, him.

그는 인터뷰 중 자신을 자신답게 만드는 것이 무엇인지에 대한 질문도 받았다.

“Family and football. If I’m playing football, I’m really happy and if I’m with my family, I’m also very happy. That’s why they’re the two most important thing to me.”

그는 “가족과 축구”를 꼽았다. “축구를 하면 정말 행복하고, 가족과 함께 있으면 그것 또한 정말 행복하다. 그래서 그 두가지가 내겐 가장 중요하다.”
