Kakao joins AI Alliance

Kakao Corp. has joined The AI Alliance, a global open-source community supporting artificial intelligence (AI) research and development, the South Korean platform giant announced on Friday.

The AI Alliance, launched in December 2023, aims to promote open innovation in the global AI space. It currently has more than 100 members, including companies such as International Business Machines Corp. (IBM), Meta Platforms, Inc., and Intel Corp. as well as representatives from industries, startups, academia, research institutions, and governments.

Kakao is the first Korean company to join the organization, and as such will strive to ensure that Korean AI standards are in line with global standards while actively advocating for Korean standards to be reflected in establishing global standards under its chief artificial intelligence officer (CAIO), the company said in a statement.
