LG Electronics recently announced that it signed a memorandum of understanding for the “joint exploration and construction of smart hospitals” with GE Healthcare Korea and Microsoft Korea at the LG Science Park in Magok, Seoul.

Smart hospitals integrate IT technology into hospital operations and medical care to provide patients with a better medical service experience. According to consulting firm CMI, the global smart hospital market is expected to grow at an average annual rate of over 20 percent, from approximately $41 billion in 2022 to $153.3 billion by 2030.

The trio aim to provide total solutions for rapidly growing smart hospitals, including advanced digital medical devices, digital solutions to improve hospital operations efficiency, and stable IT medical services through cloud systems under the MOU.

LG Electronics currently offers a total of 13 types of medical monitors, including diagnostic, surgical, and clinical monitors, as well as various products and solutions required for smart hospitals such as digital X-ray detectors, digital signage solutions, electric vehicle chargers, and CLOi robots, since entering the medical monitor market in 2016.

The company conducted Proof of Concept (PoC) for digital healthcare implementation with Korea University Anam Hospital and supplied LG CLOi robots to several medical institutions, including Yongin Severance Hospital, in December 2023.

GE Healthcare is a global company that possesses advanced digital medical equipment and digital solutions that integrate and analyze patient medical data to improve procedure accuracy and hospital operational efficiency. For its part, Microsoft Korea provides solutions to assist hospitals in digital transformation via hybrid cloud systems, AI algorithm models, and Microsoft Teams.
