Actor Ryu Jun-yeol was recently awarded an appreciation plaque by the Cultural Heritage Administration for recording the audio commentary for the “Into the Seven Jeweled Mountain: An Immersive Experience” exhibition that is currently being held simultaneously at the Cleveland Museum of Art in Ohio and the National Palace Museum of Korea.
Ryu’s agency CJes Studio said in a press release on Wednesday that the “Cultural Heritage Administration acknowledged the actor for his participation.” The administration also gave an award to Korean Japanese pianist and composer Yang Bang-ean for composing the music for the exhibition.
Located in the North Hamgyong Province of North Korea, Mount Chilbo was considered the Mount Kumgang of the region. Mount Kumgang — in Kangwon, North Korea — has long been considered the most stunning mountain in all of the Korean Peninsula. Similar to Mount Kumgang, Mount Chilbo was a painter's muse.
Numerous paintings from the latter part of the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910) depict Mount Chilbo. The two exhibitions are based on a 10-panel folding screen of the “Seven Jeweled Mountain,” or Chilbosando. The folding screen that depicts the famous mountain is the nation's priceless cultural heritage and one of Cleveland Museum’s valuable artifacts. As the title suggests, both exhibitions are immersive experiences showcasing different digital renderings of the folding screen.
Ryu recorded the English and Korean commentaries used at both museums. He did the voice acting for Keumho Lim Hyung-soo (1514-1547), a Joseon-era scholar who explored Mount Chilbo.
The Seoul exhibition at the National Palace Museum of Korea in central Seoul runs until May 26 while the one in Cleveland runs until Sept. 29. To find out more about Ryu, visit Celeb Confirmed!
