Kiturami Co. announced on Monday that it will help alleviate the financial burden of heating costs for low-income and vulnerable households by offering free installations of eco-friendly boilers throughout the first half of 2024.

The support targets households recognized by the Ministry of Environment as low-income or vulnerable, including basic livelihood recipients, the near-poor, multi-child families with an income below 70 percent of the median, and social welfare facilities. These groups are eligible for a subsidy of 600,000 won from the government that can be used to install a new eco-friendly boiler, supplemented by additional financial support from the South Korean boiler manufacturer, to ensure that the installation is free of charge.

Research conducted by the Ministry of Environment indicates that replacing an old boiler with a new eco-friendly model can increase energy efficiency by about 12 percent and could lead to annual gas bill savings of up to 440,000 won ($325) per household. Kiturami’s boilers are also designed to significantly reduce harmful emissions, cutting nitrogen oxide emissions by about 87 percent, carbon monoxide emissions by about 70.5 percent, and carbon dioxide emissions by around 19 percent.

Kiturami expressed a strong commitment to supporting vulnerable communities, saying “With the rising costs of living and energy, low-income and vulnerable groups are facing significant hardships. We hope that with the installation of our high-efficiency eco-friendly boilers, we can help alleviate some of these communities’ heating costs. We plan to actively continue our energy-sharing projects and support vulnerable populations.”
