South Korean ministries, colleges, and startup organizations are spearheading efforts to connect local talent with job opportunities, with MAIN BIZ playing a prominent role in fostering local talent.

As part of these efforts, MAIN BIZ began a program that gives on-the-job training to students from Keimyung University, a private university in Daegu, south of Seoul. The students had the opportunity to work at AUTOIT, an artificial intelligence (AI) company located in the same city. Ko Hyun-seok, one of the students and a computer science major, found a job at the company after graduation.

“I had a chance to learn and grow thanks to the training program,” Ko said.

The program, known as Venture Startup Academy, is a joint policy initiative announced by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and the Ministry of Education. It encourages local employers to give access to on-the-job training to local graduates and job applicants, who are mostly software engineering majors.

Under this initiative, colleges and startups such as MAIN BIZ are responsible for developing software engineering curricula as well as seeking partnerships with local startups and small companies, allowing students a chance to work in their local cities and communities.
