LG Innotek develops high-performance LiDAR sensor

In a significant move to dominate, LG Innotek has unveiled its latest technological breakthrough – a high-performance LiDAR sensor for the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) sensing market.

Announced on Sunday, the new LiDAR sensor is capable of tripling the detection range under adverse weather conditions compared to existing models.

LiDAR, which stands for Light Detection and Ranging, operates by emitting infrared light pulses towards objects and measuring the time it takes for the reflections to return. This process allows the sensor to discern the shape of objects and calculate distances, making it an indispensable component for the increasingly sophisticated realm of autonomous driving. As vehicles evolve towards higher levels of autonomy, the number of LiDAR units required per vehicle quadruple, making them a key component for ADAS.

LG Innotek’s cutting-edge LiDAR sensor is distinguished by its capability to detect objects up to 250 meters away, setting a new industry standard. This enhancement is particularly crucial under poor weather conditions, where its detection performance is now three times more advanced than prior versions.
