Thai author seeks to revive investigation into 1946 death of King Ananda Mahidol

epa11262042 Thai author Kungwal Buddhivanid (R) and his lawsuit team (L-R) forensic doctor Krittin Meewuttisom, former forensic police Colonel Wasukij Thanurat and lawyer Kongsak Dejkoonmak attend a press conference to present new evidence on the case of the 1946 death of King Ananda Mahidol, in Bangkok, Thailand, 06 April 2024. The criminal court in Bangkok is holding hearings on a petition submitted by Thai historic author and former business executive Kungwal Buddhivanid, as an attempt to revive an investigation into one of Thailand's most controversial cases, the death of the 20-year-old Thai King Ananda Mahidol, also known as Rama VIII. King Ananda Mahidol was found shot dead in his bedroom in the Grand Palace on 09 June 1946. According to official investigations and court verdicts in 1954, three palace officials were found guilty and were executed in 1955 for being involved in the king's murder. EPA/RUNGROJ YONGRIT
