Japan Meteorological Agency announced cherry blossoms in Tokyo became the full bloom

Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) announced on 04 April 2024 that cherry blossoms in Tokyo became the full bloom, 13 days later than the previous year and four days later than the average. The temperature in the Japanese capital rose to 19.9 degrees centigrade, 2.5 degrees higher than the average and 3.3 degrees higher than the previous day. The flower is a symbol of the arrival of spring in Japan. The JMA announced in 2022 that the cherry blossom flowering dates have been getting earlier at a rate of change of 1.1 days per decade since 1953. According to the agency data, cherry blossom flowering average data between 1991- 2020 was five days earlier than the average data between 1961-1990. The long-term temperature rise may be one factor in the flowering date getting earlier, JMA has said.
