Fans of singer-songwriter duo AKMU finally have a name: Akkademy.
AKMU kicked off celebrations for the 10-year anniversary of the duo’s debut by announcing the official fan community name on Thursday.
“The name is a combination of AKMU and academy and means an organization that is the center of art,” the duo’s agency YG Entertainment said in a press release on the same day.
Memberships for Akkademy can be purchased at AKMU’s Weverse shop from Thursday until April 4.
Titled "AKMU 10th Anniversary Project," the celebrations will entail a variety of programs prepared as thanks to the fans who have loved and supported AKMU on their musical journey for 10 years, YG Entertainment said.
A poster welcoming fans to Akkademy and announcing the project was uploaded to YG Entertainment's social media pages on Thursday.
AKMU, also known as Akdong Musician, consists of siblings Lee Chan-hyuk and Lee Su-hyun. The two shot to fame after appearing on and winning the second season of SBS’s audition program “K-Pop Star” (2012-13). The duo debuted under YG Entertainment in April 2014 with its first album “Play” and has since released hits including “200%” (2014), “Dinosaur” (2020) and “Love Lee” (2023).
The duo will perform at the upcoming Summer Sonic music Festival on Aug. 17 in Tokyo. To find out more about AKMU, visit Celeb Confirmed!
