Samsung Electro-Mechanics (SEM) Co., an electronic component manufacturing subsidiary under Samsung Group, recently unveiled new multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCC) for electric vehicles in its latest successful development of reliable high-voltage battery components.

MLCCs are a type of capacitor with multiple layers of ceramic material that act as a dielectric and a “dam” to temporarily charge and discharge electricity by regulating the current flow in circuits and prevent electromagnetic interference between components. An automotive vehicle has at least 3,000 MLCCs installed inside.

SEM recently unveiled its plan to supply five new high-voltage MLCCs to global automotive suppliers. Its new MLCCs are superior in performance, even in environments with voltages as high as 630V up to 1,000V.

The company is a pioneer in developing raw materials necessary for manufacturing high-voltage MLCCs. It has also implemented internal electrode structure enhancements to ensure reliable operation under high-voltage conditions.

Industry observers expect significant growth in the high-voltage MLCC industry, with estimates suggesting an increase in market value from $4 billion in 2024 to $11 billion by 2029, reflecting a strong annual growth rate of 22 percent.
