Busan University of Foreign Studies (BUFS) announced Tuesday it will work with Kyungsung University to apply for the Glocal University 30 project, focusing on globalizing the universities.
The two signed a memorandum of understanding to apply for the project as a coalition, agreeing to focus on globalization.
The universities plan to create a so-called international college if they win the funding. Although details aren't specified yet, the universities said the international college will focus on global education.
The universities also plan on offering more entrepreneurial support for students and education in specialist fields for the region.
"Kyungsung University already successfully launched the KS Global College, which offers courses in 100 percent English, and we plan to create a glocal campus through the Glocal University 30 project so Busan can become a city where both Korean and foreign students can reside together," said Lee Jong-geun, president of Kyungsung University. "
The Glocal University 30 project offers government funding of 100 billion won ($75.2 million) to each university, to be split over five years. Applications for the project will close on Friday, with the Ministry of Education scheduled to select 10 winners in July.
