Samsung launches enhanced energy-saving AI refrigerator

Samsung Electronics Co. on Thursday unveiled its latest refrigerator model that comes with artificial intelligence (AI) technology and improved energy efficiency.

The next-generation digital compressor of the Bespoke Refrigerator is designed to maximize energy savings by utilizing inertia during motor operation while maintaining performance.

Samsung Electronics offers a lifetime warranty service for the next-generation digital compressor, providing free repair or replacement.

Moreover, the AI-powered energy-saving mode, based on SmartThings, has been further strengthened.

This feature predicts and adjusts usage, enabling tailored energy savings in two stages, potentially reducing energy consumption by up to 23 percent based on actual usage.

In the first stage of the AI energy-saving mode, the refrigerator optimizes operation by distinguishing between instances such as the input of new food items and mere internal checks through AI learning. It also predicts and eliminates frost formation during freezing at the optimal timing.

In the second stage, additional energy savings are achieved through smart temperature control, adjusting the temperatures of the refrigerator and freezer within the range to keep food fresh as per the user’s preference.

Energy-saving features have become a trend in the home appliance industry.

Particularly, in the case of washing machines, a competitive atmosphere has emerged between Samsung Electronics and its rival LG Electronics Inc. with both highlighting their differences to attract consumers.

According to industry sources, LG Electronics, which launched the LG Tromm Objet Collection Wash Combo on Wednesday, compared Samsung Electronics’ washing and drying machine Bespoke AI Combo with its own product, using the expression “compared to similar washing and drying machines sold domestically.”

LG Electronics emphasized that its product consumes only 570W during drying while the power consumption of Samsung Electronics’ product exceeds 1,000W.

LG Electronics also highlighted the use of 100 percent heat pump technology in its product compared to a rival product, as it includes both heat pump and heater. LG Electronics claims this reduces fabric damage and improves energy efficiency.

In response, Samsung Electronics said, “The use of heater technology in Samsung Electronics products is to quickly raise the temperature under special conditions such as winter cold. Without a heater, energy consumption increases at lower temperatures, and drying time also lengthens.”
