Google Korea launched a Digital Responsibility Committee to foster a responsible digital ecosystem, the U.S. technology company said on Thursday.

The committee, comprised of industry experts in information technology (IT), law, media and content, and consumer protection, aims to facilitate constructive communication around a responsible digital ecosystem for the development of the Korean digital ecosystem.

Google Korea will also host the YouTube Open Forum and the Responsible Artificial Intelligence (AI) Forum in 2024, in addition to the App Ecosystem Forum, which it has been operating since November 2020.

“The committee will lead discussions on Google‘s role in the rapidly changing digital ecosystem and its contribution to social development,” the company said.

The committee’s inaugural ceremony, held at the National Assembly Members’ Office Building a day before the announcement, was attended by Kim Jin-pyo, speaker of the National Assembly, and Lee Sang-heon, chairman of the National Assembly Committee on Culture, Sports, and Tourism, among others.

“We will actively listen to the opinions of experts from various fields, including the National Assembly, and jointly deliberate on more roles and responsibilities for a healthy digital ecosystem,” Google Korea President Kim Kyoung-hoon said.
