Girl group Le Sserafim’s Huh Yun-jin was thrown under the bus by some fans for drinking coffee from Starbucks in light of the company's alleged stance on the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.
A Monday online post shared that Huh was being bombarded with comments criticizing her for drinking a Starbucks coffee.
She received comments asking her to educate herself and apologize such as “Please educate yourself, this is disappointing” and “Hoping you will take accountability and apologize.”
Another commenter said, “Okay, miss ‘I wanna change the industry,’” and "How you gonna change the idol industry when you can't even boycott?" referring to a statement Huh said in her debut teaser clip in April 2022.
However, Huh is not the first celebrity under fire, as a number of Korean artists have been receiving criticisms for using products from Starbucks due to its alleged stance as a "pro-Israel" company.
Boy band Enhypen’s Jake was criticized for drinking the company's product during a Jan. 5 live show on Weverse. He later apologized.
Singer Jeon Somi was also criticized for using a tumbler with a Starbucks logo in her TikTok video in December of last year.
Starbucks has been alleged to be a pro-Israel company by online critics after it sued its workers' union, Starbucks Workers United, after a member of the union tweeted a pro-Palestinian message. The company denied such claims.
Starbucks Korea is currently operated separately from the U.S.-based Starbucks, as Korean conglomerate Shinsegae Group owns the brand in Korea.
