Girl group Blackpink’s Jennie will release her new single “Slow Motion” at 2 p.m. on Friday.
The upcoming single is a collaboration with Matt Champion, an American rapper from the now-disbanded boy band Brockhampton. The two had become acquainted after both attended and performed at the Coachella festival in 2023.
It will be the Blackpink member’s first music release after she founded her label, Odd Atelier, in December, after she departed from YG Entertainment.
Matt Champion announced the release in an image posted to Instagram, along with the date and time of the release in the captions, and tagged Jennie in the image. Jennie subsequently shared the image on her Instagram story with the caption “can’t wait for the world to hear our song.”
Jennie’s label Odd Atelier posted the same image and the track’s release time and date to its Twitter page on Thursday.
“Slow Motion” is a drum and bass song that will be completely different from Champion’s recent alternative pop track “Slug,” according to the rapper’s label RCA Records.
Champion started his career with his debut solo single “Die With Me” in 2014 and released his first full-length album “Harley” in 2017.
Jennie debuted in 2016 as a member of girl group Blackpink under YG Entertainment. The group released numerous hits including "Ddu-Du Ddu-Du" (2018), "Kill This Love" (2019), "Shut Down" (2022) and "Pink Venom" (2022). She released “Solo,” her first music as a solo artist, in 2018.
In December, the singer renewed her contract with YG Entertainment, but only for her group activities in Blackpink, saying she will pursue solo activities with her independent label.
