South Korea’s state utility Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO) said on Thursday that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Denmark‘s state-owned transmission operator, Energinet. The duo will collaborate on stable grid operation technologies in response to the increasing use of renewable energy at home and abroad.

Energinet develops offshore wind power projects in Denmark, focusing on building transmission networks and conducting initial environmental impact assessments.

The MoU enables KEPCO to exchange expertise with Denmark, a country with a high proportion of renewable energy and large-scale offshore wind power in particular.

The collaboration involves sharing Denmark’s experiences in designing offshore wind power and power facilities, high-voltage direct current (HVDC) operation technologies, and surplus power energy storage and conversion technologies, while KEPCO will contribute substation facility digitalization and preventive diagnosis technologies.

Leveraging these acquired technologies, KEPCO plans to develop large-scale renewable energy grid interconnection and suitability assessment technologies by December 2025, with the aim of applying them to practical projects such as those for offshore wind power generation.
