The government has been since 23 February, carrying out eviction operations of people living in high risk zones, on the grounds that the land occupied by the illegal residents was prone to flooding, landslide and insanitary buildings. Government spokesman said 100 residents were killed in the past five years due to floods and landslides in those areas. The evicted populations claimed they were not warned by the authorities, who sometimes used teargas to dislodge them, preventing them from saving their belongings from destroyed structures. For the year 2024, according to the Autonomous District of Abidjan, about 176 sites located in various districts of the city will be visited by bulldozers. The next eviction operation is scheduled for 09 March. EPA/LEGNAN KOULA ATTENTION: This Image is part of a PHOTO SET
