Baghdad's ancient Shanasheel houses, with their distinctive architectural features which is characterized by their intricately carved wooden latticework, known as "mashrabiya," which provides both privacy and ventilation, dated to 16-17th-century. Despite the challenges of time and urban development, efforts are being made to preserve and restore these historic homes, after being neglected and misused for an extended period of time, in order to become one of the historical and cultural landmarks of Baghdad.
