LG Uplus Corp. announced Monday that it has collaborated with Amazon Web Services Inc. (AWS) and Samsung Electronics Co. to develop automation technology that optimizes the expansion timing of 5G equipment.

The announcement was made at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 in Spain.

The automation technology, designed to anticipate and handle increased data usage seamlessly, utilizes Samsung Electronics’ Cloud Native Core Software built on AWS cloud. This AI-driven system predicts the optimal timing for expanding equipment and automatically scales up, ensuring smooth communication services.

For instance, during crowded events such as New Year’s countdowns, causing a surge in traffic, AWS’s AI could increase the capacity of 5G equipment from 10GB to 20GB, ensuring uninterrupted service.

The three companies demonstrated the technology at the AWS booth at Fira Gran Via in Barcelona, Spain, during MWC 2024. The three also pledged to continue joint research on AI and machine learning-based cloud equipment automation technologies, according to LG Uplus.

LG Uplus had previously signed a business agreement with AWS in 2022 to collaborate on the development of network cloud technology. The ongoing research explores the deployment of network equipment on the AWS cloud.
