Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is set to visit South Korea this week, where he will meet with LG Electronics CEO Cho Joo-wan on Wednesday. The meeting is expected to focus on discussions for the advanced mixed reality (MR) headset collaboration that the two companies are working on together.

According to industry sources on Sunday, Zuckerberg is currently in talks to arrange a meeting with Cho during his visit, and the face-to-face discussion is anticipated to take place on February 28th, 2024.

The encounter between the two is reported to revolve around the collaborative efforts of Meta and LG Electronics in developing an advanced headset, with a targeted market release in 2025. The headset, believed to be the highest-spec model within Meta’s Quest series, could potentially lead to LG Electronics taking on mass production once the joint development is successfully completed and the collaboration signifies a potential long-term partnership between the two companies.

Market watchers have pointed out that the MR headset market is undergoing a major change, with industry giants including Samsung Electronics Co., Google LLC, Apple Inc., Meta, and LG Electronics forming the three main camps.

Zuckerberg’s visit Korea is his first trip to the country since June 2013. During his previous visit, which lasted one night and two days, he met with then-President Park Geun-hye and Samsung Electronics leader Jay Y. Lee.

Reports suggest that Zuckerberg is currently coordinating a schedule to meet with President Yoon Suk Yeol and exploring the possibility of discussing collaboration with Lee on artificial intelligence (AI) chips.
