LG Uplus completes cloud technology verification with Nokia

South Korean mobile carrier LG Uplus Corp. has completed technology verification with Finnish multinational telecommunication equipment manufacturer Nokia Corp. to automatically address issues in virtualized base stations through the cloud, the company said on Friday.

LG Uplus can now expand the capacity and performance of base stations through cloud equipment when traffic increases and automatically deploy the necessary applications for recovery in the event of failures such as hardware malfunctions, circuit issues, or software glitches, according to the company.

Virtualized base stations are considered a key element in implementing 6th generation (6G) mobile communication as they can be implemented by installing software on general-purpose servers regardless of the hardware manufacturer.

“We will continue to research next-generation network technologies to provide stable services by applying the latest digital transformation (DX) technologies to our network infrastructure,” said Lee Sang-heon, head of network advanced development at LG Uplus.
