Samsung Electronics said it will work with British chip design firm Arm Holdings plc to optimize the design of Arm‘s next-generation system on chips (SoC) for Samsung’s upcoming 2-nm process technologies that rely on gate-all-around (GAA) transistors.

GAA transistors are based on a next-generation transistor architecture that frees it from the existing challenges of fin field-effect transistors, or FinFETs. The cutting-edge transistors boast faster processing speeds and more efficient use of electricity.

The collaboration between the Korean semiconductor foundry and the British intellectual property (IP) developer is expected to give fabless companies more access to Arm‘s state-of-the-art central processing unit (CPU), allowing them to reduce the time and cost associated with developing advanced products.
