올림픽 펜싱 국가대표의 전 약혼자, 사기로 징역 12년의 중형

The court sentenced Jeon Cheong-jo, former fiancé of Olympian Nam Hyun-hee, who falsely claimed to be the third generation scion of a Korean casino and hotel conglomerate, to 12 years in prison.

The court sentenced Jeon Cheong-jo, former fiancé of Olympian Nam Hyun-hee, who falsely claimed to be the third generation scion of a Korean casino and hotel conglomerate, to 12 years in prison.

The Seoul Eastern District Court on Wednesday found Jeon guilty of defrauding 3 billion won ($2.2 million) from 27 victims. Jeon was indicted on charges of fraud and forging public and private documents, including fabricating an identity card to pose as a male.

서울동부지법은 수요일(2월14일) 27명으로부터 30억원(220만 달러)을 사취한 혐의를 받아온 전씨에게 유죄 판결을 내렸다. 전씨는 사기 혐의와 함께 남자 행세를 하기 위해 가짜 신분증을 만드는 등 공문서 및 사문서를 위조한 혐의로 기소됐다.

The 28-year-old approached her victims by flaunting connections with influential figures, including Lee Boo-jin, Hotel Shilla president and daughter of late Samsung Group Chairman Lee Kunhee, portraying herself as an illegitimate child of a major casino and hotel conglomerate.

현재 28세인 그는 호텔 신라의 대표이자 고(故) 이건희 삼성그룹 회장의 딸인 이부진 사장을 포함해 영향력 있는 인물들을 안다고 떠벌리며 피해자들에게 접근했다. 그는 또 자신을 한 대형 카지노 그룹 가문의 사생아라고 소개해왔다.

She had collected 3 billion won as investments in unlisted shares offshore, citing a secret investment strategy known only to the top Korean conglomerate families. Some victims were parents of students attending the fencing school in Gangnam run by the 42-yearold Olympian.

그는 한국 유명 재벌 가문에만 알려진 해외 비상장 주식에 대한 투자 전략이 있다고 속여 30억원을 투자금으로 모아왔다. 피해자 중 일부는 올해 42세인 전 올림픽 국가대표(남현희)가 강남에서 운영하는 펜싱학교 학생의 부모였다.

Prosecutors emphasized that Jeon committed the crimes to lead a luxurious life with the swindled money. Jeon claimed that all of the criminal proceeds were given to the 42-year-old Olympian fencer Nam. Among the items Jeon had gifted Nam included a 300 million won Bentley Bentayga, as well as a 14 million won Chanel makeup bag and a Dior Medium Toujours Bag.

검찰은 전씨가 편취한 돈으로 사치스러운 생활을 하기 위해 범죄를 저질렀다고 강조했다. 전씨는 범죄 수익금은 모두 펜싱 국가대표 출신인 남씨에게 갔다고 주장했다. 전씨가 남씨에 선물한 물건 중에는 3억원 상당의 벤틀리 벤타이 차량과 1400만원 샤넬 코스메틱 케이스 백, 디오르 뚜주흐 미디엄 백이 포함돼 있다.

Jeon, who had prior fraud convictions and several prison terms, came into public view when a magazine published an article in October last year introducing her as the Olympian fencer's fiancé, supposedly a third-generation scion of a major conglomerate, shortly after Nam had divorced her husband.

사기 전과자인 전씨는 앞서 수차례 징역형을 살았으며 지난해 10월 한 잡지가 그를 올림픽 국가대표 선수였던 남씨가 전 남편과 이혼한 직후 만난 재벌 3세 약혼자로 소개하는 기사를 실으면서 대중에 알려졌다.

Following the engagement news, suspicions arose regarding Jeon’s claimed affiliation with the conglomerate and her gender identity. Soon, Jeon’s criminal past, mainly involving romance scams, was exposed to the public. engagement : 약혼, 약속affiliation : 소속, 제휴, 가입

약혼 소식이 전해진 후 전씨와 재벌 기업의 관련성이나 그의 성정체성에 대한 의혹이 일었다. 이어 대체로 로맨스 스캠(연애를 가장해 저지르는 사기)과 관련된 전씨의 전과가 드러났다.

The prosecutor’s office has requested a 15-year sentence for Jeon and seven years for her accomplice, who posed as her bodyguard. The court sentenced the accomplice only identified as Lee 18 months in prison. Fencer Nam is also being investigated by the police on her involvement.

검찰은 앞서 전씨에 대해 징역 15년을, 경호원 역할을 한 공범에 대해서는 징역 7년을 구형했다. 법원은 이모씨로만 알려진 공범에게 징역 18개월을 선고했다. 경찰은 남 선수의 개입 여부도 조사하고 있다.
