Jamiat Ulma-e-Islam supporters protest against alleged riggings in elections in Quetta

epa11149675 Supporters of Islamic political party Jamiat Ulma-e-Islam gather to protest alleged riggings in general elections in Quetta, Pakistan, 13 February 2024. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on 13 February announced that it will field its own candidate for the prime minister's post, ruling out any possibility of forming a coalition government. The party formed special committees to strategize government formation and will nominate candidates for key positions. The decision comes amidst allegations of post-election rigging and mass electoral misconduct. The hung parliament results have deepened the political deadlock in Pakistan, with no party able to form a government on its own. Independent candidates, largely supported by PTI, dominated with 101 seats in the aftermath of the February 8 elections, followed by PML-N with 75 and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) with 54, according to the unofficial preliminary results announced by Election Commission of Pakistan.
