A 32-year-old woman was taken into police custody after reportedly calling 18 taxis to President Yoon Suk Yeol on Monday morning.
According to Yongsan police on Wednesday, the woman, who was apprehended on Tuesday, a day after she allegedly called the taxis through a ride-hailing app, is currently being questioned by investigators.
The woman apparently made the taxi calls for two hours starting at 2:30 a.m.
She used the cab-hailing app to request a taxi every 5 to 10 minutes.
Reportedly, she provided the taxis with an address for a public office located only 20 meters from the checkpoint to the president’s residence.
The name of the building she used when calling the cab service was an old vocational school that was in use until 2002.
Reportedly the name of the school does not appear on other online maps or taxi-hailing apps and only on the one the woman used.
When typing the name of the public office, other app directs the driver to the road far from the check point.
Taxi drivers who responded to the calls stated that they simply followed the navigation system's suggested destination on the app.
Police said they have increased security around the president’s residence.
