Netflix announces major Korean originals for 2024

Netflix on Tuesday unveiled a lineup of South Korean series and films that are scheduled to be released on Netflix in 2024.

Among the Korean drama series that will hit the platform in the first half of this year is "A Killer Paradox," a webtoon-based thriller series that stars Choi Woo-shik and Son Suk-ku. The first episode of "A Killer Paradox" will stream on Netflix Friday.

"Chicken Nugget," which follows the story of a father whose daughter turns into a chicken nugget, will also be streamed on Netflix sometime in the first half of 2024. A mix of comedy and mystery, the drama series will star actors Ryu Seung-ryong and Ahn Jae-hong.

Also slated for release in the first half of the year is "The 8 Show," a thriller drama series that combines the stories and settings of popular webtoon series "Money Game" and "Pie Game" -- along with "Parasyte: The Grey," a dramatization of the hit Japanese manga series "Parasyte."

In the latter half of 2024, "The Whirlwind," a political drama series starring Korean veteran actors Kim Hee-ae and Sol Kyung-gu, and "The Frog," a mystery drama series starring Kim Yun-seok and Yoon Kye-sang, will stream on Netflix.

"Mr. Plankton," a romantic comedy-drama series that follows the story of a man who goes on the last journey of his life, as well as "The Trunk," a romance drama series starring Gong Yoo and Seo Hyun-jin, will hit the streaming service in the second half of 2024.

A slew of sequels of global hit Korean Netflix originals will also stream on Netflix in 2024.

The second seasons of the international hit series "Squid Game," "Hellbound" and "Gyeongseong Creature" along with the third season of "Sweet Home," will be streamed exclusively on Netflix in 2024, with the release date yet unconfirmed.

Popular Korean variety shows will also return with additional seasons.

The second season of "Physical: 100" will air in the first quarter of 2024, while during the fourth quarter, global hit Korean variety shows such as "Zombieverse" and "Single's Inferno" will return with their second season and fourth season, respectively.

Meanwhile, four Korean films are scheduled to be released on Netflix, in addition to "Badland Hunters," a dystopian action film starring Don Lee which was released on Jan. 26.

"My Name is Loh Ki-wan," which narrates the story of Ki-wan (played by Song Joong-ki), a North Korean defector who struggles to obtain refugee status in Belgium, will be unveiled on Netflix on March 1.

"Officer Black Belt," an action comedy film starring Kim Woo-bin and Kim Sung-kyun, and "The Great Flood," a sci-fi flick starring Kim Da-mi and Park Hae-soo, will come to Netflix sometime in 2024.

“Uprising,” produced by Kim Sang-man and scripted by renowned Korean auteur Park Chan-wook, will also be released this year. Narrating the story of a lowly commoner with exceptional sword skills, the film will star actors Gang Dong-won and Park Jeong-min.
