Cosmax to focus on skin bio technology

South Korean cosmetics original design manufacturer Cosmax Group will mobilize its internal capabilities to secure advanced biotechnology that uses biological resources.

The company announced Monday that it formed Cosmax BF, an internal research consortium for bio-material development that includes three subsidiaries, including the Cosmax BTI R&I Center. Around 100 researchers, including those from Korean as well as international universities and institutions will be involved in the consortium via open research.

Cosmax BF was established to integrate the dispersed bio-utilization capabilities within the group and to create future added value via organic collaboration.

Its core foundation is research on skin microbiomes that has been conducted over the past 12 years. Cosmax began researching skin microbiomes in 2011 and succeeded in commercializing the world’s first skin microbiome cosmetics in 2019.

The company followed up by introducing the second generation of skin microbiomes in 2022 by collecting microorganisms from thousands of skin samples. The microorganisms secured during the research process amount to about 3,000 species.

For its part, Cosmax BF plans to disclose advanced bio research achievements, including the development of skin organoid models.
