'Buried in Pain', Hatay cemetery grave builder accompanies earthquake grievers in their pain

Almost one year has passed since the 06 February earthquake in Turkey and Syria in which more than 50,000 people died. In Hatay alone, according to Mayor Lutfi Savas, some 24.000 lost their lives. As in other areas, those whose bodies could not be found are now considered dead. The state built mass cemeteries to be able to absorb their vast numbers. However, the earthquake did not only destroy houses: in the modern cemetery of Hatay, thousands of graves were broken or overturned. According to Muslim tradition, the graves of people, usually buried as soon as possible after their death, are built by an artisan some time after the first burial. A few days before the earthquake anniversary on 03 February, Aliye Gul, visited her husband's tomb after it was rebuilt by grave builder Bosnak. While recounting the earthquake day, she said ?I lost my husband in the Guclu Bahce housing complex. This settlement was only two years old and cost millions of liras. When they sold it, they said it was very resistant to earthquakes. But it collapsed in the 43rd second of the earthquake. I filed a lawsuit against the contractors and asked for compensation from the state. I hope that justice will be done. I hope they will never be released from prison?. According to Bosnak the grave builder, there is so much work right now at the cemetery that finishing work on the graves dating back to the February 6th earthquake will take a few more years.
