FULL TIME: Korea 2-1 Australia. The Taeguk Warriors advance to face Jordan in the semifinals on Tuesday night.
120 min: SUBSTITUTION Korea's Lee Kang-in off for Jung Seung-hyun as Klinsmann looks to run down the clock One minute of added time.119 min:Lee Kang-in's shot is saved by Ryan. Oh Hyeon-gyu gets the rebound, but Ryan is there again, with Lee darting in for attempt No. 3 with the Australian captain once again managing to get in the way. 117 min: Everybody is up for an Australia free kick just inside the half. Ryan takes it, but they can't make it happen. 112 min:Son gets another chance in front of goal but sends it just wide of the post. 111 min: Son Heung-min has a go from outside the box. It doesn't trouble Ryan, but it does show that Australia's shift to a more attacking approach has created some space for Korea to try their luck in front of goal.
105 min: SUBSTITUTION. Korea's Hwang Hee-chan and Park Young-woo out for Oh Hyeon-gyu and Park Jin-seob.
We're back underway.
HALF TIME IN EXTRA TIME: Korea 2-1 Australia. Two very different approaches in the first period of extra time. Korea are on an all-out offensive — and so far it's working — while Australia seem to have switched to a 5-3-2 in a bid to push it to penalties. Expect the Soceroos to change that approach in the second period, but now with only 10 men. RED CARD:VAR check shows O'Neil going studs up into Hwang's left ankle. It's a straight red. 105 min:Australia's O'Neill sees yellow for a reckless foul on Hwang Hee-chan. Hwang, who just returned from injury, is still down and VAR is checking for a possible red card. 102 min: GOAL. Korea 2-1 Australia. Son Heung-min fires the free kick into the top left corner. Ryan got a hand to it, but it wasn't enough.
101 min: Hwang Hee-chan wins a foul about a meter outside the box after a foul by Miller. 98 min:Recent sub Fornaroli booked for a foul on Son. It's a bit too far outside the box for an attempt, so Lee Kang-in plays it out to the right wing. 96 min:Lee Jae-sung fires a shot from outside the box that curves just right of the goal. Korea are knocking on the door.
94 min: Hwang Hee-chan has a go but it doesn't cause Ryan too much trouble, but Lee Kang-in's attempt to head the ball around the corner from just by the post forced the Australian goalkeeper to scramble to his left to keep things tied up. 91 min: SUBSTITUTION.Australia's Duke off for Bruno Fornaroli.
Korea get us started in extra-time.
This is the fourth game in a row that Korea have scored in stoppage time at the end of the second half. Against Jordan in the group stage it tied things up, while against Malaysia it briefly put them up 3-2 before Malaysia returned the favor. In the round of 16 against Saudi Arabia it tied things up, triggering extra time and eventually a penalty shoot-out win. Can Korea do it again? 90+8 min: EXTRA TIME.The whistle blows for the end of regular time with the score tied at 1-1. We will be here for at least another 30 minutes. 90 min +5: GOAL. Korea 1-1 Australia.Hwang Hee-chan fires the equalizer into the top left corner. It's all tied up with two minutes to play. 90 min +3: PENALTY TO KOREA. Miller fouls Son in the box. Korea win a stoppage time penalty. 90 min:Kim Min-jae gets a yellow card. Seven minutes of stoppage time.
89 min:Lee Kang-in slots the ball through to Son in the box. The Korean captain has very little space to work with, attempting to fire the ball across the box but finding Ryan instead. 85 min: SUBSTITUTION.Australia's Boyle off for Cameron Burgess. Korea's Kim Tae-hwan goes off for Yang Hyun-jun. 85 min:Time is running out for Korea. If the Taeguk Warriors fail to score they will crash out of the Asian Cup in the quarterfinals for a second straight tournament. In 2019 they lost 1-0 to eventual winners Qatar in the quarterfinals. 82 min:Duke comes very close to scoring after a speedy counterattack that started after Miller poked his way through to steal the ball deep in his own half and played it up the wing. Duke's header goes just wide.
79 min: Ryan back on his feet and play resumes.
78 min: Australia goalkeeper Ryan on the floor after getting caught on the back of the head by Lee Jae-sung's boot during a goalmouth scramble.
76 min: SUBSTITUTION. Korea's Hwang In-beom off for Hong Hyun-seok.
73 min:Jo tested again as Australia fire a header toward the top right corner. The Korean goalkeeper — who only ended up in the starting slot after Kim Seung-gyu was injured at the start of the tournament — shuts it down. 71 min: SUBSTITUTION. Australia make another double change. Goodwin and Atkinson off for Jordan Bos and Lewis Miller. 69 min: SUBSTITUTION. Korea's Cho goes off for Lee Jae-sung. Australia's Baccus and Metcalfe are off for Aiden O'Neill and Riley McGree. 68 min: Chance for both Lee Kang-in and Son, but with eight Australia players in the box there's just no room to get a shot in.
66 min: It's all Korea now. Building on the flanks and firing cross after cross in, but Australia are equal to the onslaught right now.
63 min: Korea continue to build pressure here, but find themselves in wide areas with a sea of gold shirts in the box before them. 57 min: Australia noticeably playing more defensively in the second half, with the midfield sitting far deeper for a seven-man back line. It's a tactic that could work — if there's one thing this Asian Cup has proven it's that Korea have no answer to heavy man-marking and a dense defense. 53 min: The Korean defense is caught short as Boyle finds himself with plenty of room in front of goal. Jo Hyeon-woo saves the day, twice, before Duke hoofs it over the bar for a goal kick. 50 min: Lee Kang-in and Son combine for a great run down the middle, slotting the ball to Hwang Hee-chan who takes one touch too many and trips himself up. Korea keep possession and the ball eventually goes out for a corner which is then cleared. 48 min: Lee Kang-in gets the ball in a busy Australia box but doesn't have space to do anything more than tap it into Ryan's hands.
We're back underway in the second half.
HALF TIME: Korea 0-1 Australia. Australia end the half with the lead, capitalizing on the few opportunities they had despite Korea controlling the majority of the possession. For Korea, it's a disappointing start. The Taeguk Warriors have looked like a far more effective, coherent team tonight than at any other point in the tournament, but finishing is clearly still an issue. 45 min: Australia's Souttar sees the first yellow of the game for an elbow to Cho's face while jumping for a header. 41 min: GOAL. Korea 0-1 Australia. Australia take first blood, with what looked like every single midfielder having a go before Goodwin finally found the back of the net. The goal followed a string of attempts from the Socceroos, who have seized the momentum in the last 10 minutes.
40 min:Australia's Metcalfe has an attempt from distance, but it's very high and wide. 36 min: Set pieces seem to be an issue for the Socceroos as another corner very quickly ends in a goal kick.
33 min: It's an attack a minute from Korea at the moment. Getting down the wing doesn't seem to be a problem, but finding space in the box to finish the job is a constant issue. 31 min: DISALLOWED. Scratch that. Goal disallowed for offside after a very quick VAR check.
30 min: GOAL! Korea 1-0 Australia. Lee Kang-in crosses the ball into the Seol, who taps it across the box for Hwang Hee-chan to tap into the net. 29 min: Hwang Hee-chan reminds us that pushing people when the ball isn't even in play is generally not permitted. 28 min: Australia have a corner on the left, but Korea deal with it and clear their lines. 26 min: Lee Kang-in slots the ball in from the side of the box but Hwang In-beom only gets a foot full of air. 24 min: Seol finds himself in some space on the left, he cuts it back to Son but the lineman's flag is up for offside. 20 min: Hwang Hee-chan has a chance. Kim Young-gwon sends a great through ball into the box but Hwang doesn't have enough time to fire off a shot before Ryan shuts down the play.
18 min : Goodwin is the first to test Jo, forcing a save from outside the box. Metcalfe gets the rebound but fluffs the shot to send it wide.
16 min:Korea is dominating possession by 80% to Australia's 20% in the opening 15 minutes. No goal to show for so much control though. 13 min: Center-back Kim Min-jae breaks ranks to sprint the length of the pitch down the left wing, firing the ball in slightly too late to find the hands of the Australian goalkeeper. 12 min: Baccus gets a talking to after knocking Hwang Hee-chan to the ground while competing for a header.
10 min: Son is looking more like the Premier League version of himself, finding some space in the middle and getting the opportunity to create. 8 min: The ball is played over the top to Cho, who gets crowded out and passes the ball back. Korea struggling to find space in the final third. 4 min: Korea break away with Son on the run. He slots it through to Cho who struggles to find enough space and possession is lost. 2 min: Australia win a free-kick just inside Korea's half. Goodwin will play it in. It fails to find a gold shirt and goes out of play.
Korea kick off and we're underway.
The two captains shake hands in the middle. The referee and his assistants tonight are from Oman. The fourth official and VAR are from UAE.
Here come the players. Both teams are in their national colors, Korea will be playing in red and Australia in green and gold.
