South Korea’s convenience store chain Emart24 will open a store in Cambodia in June, becoming the first in the industry to make a strategic entry into the Southeast Asian country.

The announcement was made during a celebratory event held at the Fairfield by Marriott Phnom Penh Hotel in Cambodia on Thursday, where Emart24 unveiled its vision and expansion plans for the Cambodian market.

In December 2023, Emart24 signed a master franchise agreement with Saihan Partners in Cambodia. The partnership outlines the establishment of the first Emart24 store in Cambodia in June, with ambitious plans to expand to 100 stores within the next five years.

Saihan Partners is a joint venture between the Cambodian business entity Saisons Brother Holding, engaged in various sectors including food, distribution, agriculture, and construction, and Korean real estate development firm Hanlim Architecture Group.

Master franchising is when a franchisor contracts with a local company to sell the right to operate a franchised business instead of going overseas themselves.

“Being the first Korean convenience store to enter Cambodia brings us great joy,” said Kang In-seok, executive vice president of operations support at Emart24. “We plan to work closely with Saihan Partners to continuously expand and offer differentiated value to Cambodian customers.”

Emart24 operates more than 50 stores in Malaysia and Singapore.
