One month after the New Year's Day earthquake in Japan

Japan commemorates on 01 February one month since the 7.6 magnitude New Year's Day earthquake on the Noto Peninsula in central Japan has killed 238 people at the end of January. More than 14,000 people remain in evacuation centers. Ishikawa Prefectural government has announced that almost 46,000 homes have been damaged or destroyed and large areas remain without water or electricity due to the worst natural disaster that has hit the country in northern Japan since 2011.
