Figure skater Shin Ji-a won a silver medal in the women’s single skate at the Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympics on Tuesday, becoming the second female Korean figure skater to medal in Winter Youth Games history after 2020 gold medalist You Young.
After scoring 66.48 points in Sunday’s short program, Shin managed 125.35 points in Tuesday’s free skate for a final score of 191.83 and claimed silver at Gangneung Ice Arena in Gangneung, Gangwon.
Shimada Mao from Japan topped the podium with 196.99 points and countrywoman Takagi Yo took bronze with 183.20.
Another Korean figure skater Kim Yu-seong came in fourth place with 181.53.
Shin, 15, is also the second Korean to medal in figure skating this year after Kim Hyun-gyeom, who became the first-ever Korean male figure skater to win gold at the Winter Youth Olympics on Monday.
Tuesday’s women’s single skating wrapped up the women’s singles figure skating competition at this year’s Youth Winter Olympics.
Team event figure skating will continue on Thursday, the last day of the Winter Youth Olympics.
