Korea's Kim Hyun-gyeom competes in the men's singles free skate at the Gangwon 2024 Youth Olympics at the Gangneung Ice Arena in Gangneung, Gangwon on Monday.
Kim, 17, won the men's singles gold medal with a score of 216.73 points, 69.28 points from the short program and 147.45 points from the free skate. He ranked third after the short program, but rose to first after the free skate.
Kim is the first Korean male figure skater to take gold at the Winter Youth Olympics and only the third Korean to top the podium in figure skating at any Olympics, after Kim Yuna took gold at the 2010 Winter Olympics and You Young won the 2020 Winter Youth Olympics.
The women's singles figure skating competition was set to wrap with the free skate on Tuesday as of press time. Korea's Shin Ji-a and Kim Yu-seong currently sit in third and fourth place after Sunday's short program.
