Shinsegae’s Starfield Suwon attracts 230,000 visitors over two days

Starfield Suwon, a large shopping mall complex in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, opened on Friday, attracting more than 230,000 over the two days after its opening.

According to Shinsegae Group, the operator of the multi-complex mall, on Sunday, a total of 230,784 people visited Starfield Suwon over the two days after the opening on Friday. On the first day, there were 90,533 visitors and on the second day, there were 140,251 visitors.

On the opening day, the parking space was full with about 4,500 vehicles by noon, just two hours after opening. On Saturday, Suwon City sent safety texts to citizens urging caution, as traffic congestion continued in the neighborhood.

Shinsegae defines Starfield Suwon as Starfield 2.0, an upgraded location from the first-generation, family-oriented Starfield, focusing on specialized stores catering to young consumers.

More than 30 percent of the 400-plus stores at Starfield Suwon are new to Starfield, which indicates that the mall’s design is tailored to young customers.

It emphasizes experiential spaces for hobbies, culture, sports, and sharing everyday life with pets, which differentiates Starfield Suwon from the family-focused spaces of other Starfield shopping malls.

Shinsegae explained that about 70 percent of the 230,784 visitors in the first two days after the official opening used public transportation or came by foot. This indicates that most customers were individuals instead of families traveling by car.

“The number of users at Hwaseo metro station was about 10,000 on the Saturday before the opening, but it surged to 60,000 on the first weekend after the opening of Starfield Suwon,” said a Shinsegae official.
